Mosquito Control by Eliminating Breeding Grounds

Although mosquito control takes place in many forms, the first step that you should take is to prevent these mosquitoes from breeding in the first place. Mosquitoes reproduce at an alarming rate, and if they cannot do so on your property, you have effectively won the battle against mosquitoes before it even begins.

To start, evaluate where you have water on your property. Mosquitoes spend half of their life cycles in water, and the female mosquitoes require water in order to breed. However, locating these water sources may lead you to the main source of your problems. Eliminate the heart of your mosquito infestation, and you will find that they are much less likely to return to your premises.

In particular, pay special attention to any area that might become stagnant. These are ideal breeding grounds. You could look at things such as spare tires, birdbaths, hot tubs or wading pools. Don’t create breeding ground for mosquitoes by leaving stagnant water around your yard. Frequently empty these so that the mosquitoes cannot discover them.

If you have already discovered mosquitoes in water sources on your property, investing in mosquito dunks or mosquito bites are effective for control. The bits and dunks use a bacterium that controls the mosquitoes and flies before they have a chance to fully develop. Tossing these into ponds or swamps will kill the mosquitoes before they ever take flight or have the potential to spread disease to your loved ones spending time in your yard.
